West County Flowers : Of all the places I have called home West County (Shelburne Falls and the surrounding communities) is of the most dear to my heart. Images in this gallery were gathered over several years as I worked at developing my photographic eye and style. Many of the these flowers are from gardens that I tended as an independent gardener-for-hire while putting myself through college. Please enjoy and look close as another passion of mine is seen by the careful observer - where there are plants there are insects!

Mama's Garden : I am blessed to live in a home that has seen six generations of our family grow over the last 100 hundred years. Three years ago when I moved into this home - officially returning from nearly four years in the desert - I began to tinker and doddle in the backyard, pulling some weeds here taking down some brush there. What I began to discover and continue to uncover is a treasure trove of plants that have survived several decades of being ignored. Purple Irises once dwarfed and huddled beneath a rusty old metal fence have sprung back to life, Orange Double-petaled Lilies once misunderstood to be weeds burst into bloom and beautiful Pink and White Ornamental Peas re-seed themselves with little care or attention year after year, decade after decade. I pay attention now and escape to this hidden sanctuary when life gets too chaotic or when I just plain get the chance. I pull weeds like an old woman prays the rosary, with devotion and love I tend this little plot of land that has seen so many members of my family come and go. I have added to the collection of hidden treasures and continue to observe and move my little green allies - hoping someday I will reach garden nirvana and sit still in my chair beneath the grape vines thinking of the respite this garden has provided all those years of my life.
